Ccovid 19 Information

3/16/2020

Recovery Dharma Statement on COVID-19Many members have expressed concern about whether or not to cancel in-person meetings. As a global organization, we encourage local sanghas to make those decisions based on what is best for their community and make those decisions with awareness and compassion. In addition, we do encourage all sanghas, and every member, to exercise care and caution in line with the recommendations of the healthcare community.

We have established a new page on our website, found at https://recoverydharma.org/covid-19-information, to give sanghas information about our current global online meetings, as well as guidance on how to set up temporary, sangha-specific, online meetings.

Attention local Sanghas moving to online platforms or cancelling meetings: You’ll also find a link on our COVID-19 page to a list we’ve created to help members post and find temporary online meetings instead of updating each meeting on the main Meeting List page. Meeting Secretaries- please jump on to this sheet and post your temporary meeting. Everyone
– please check this page prior to attending a meeting so that you are not unnecessarily trying to attend a meeting that has temporarily moved online.

Facilitators may consider setting up the room where you meet with more space than usual between chairs and cushions or choosing to spend a bit of meeting dana on hand soap or sanitizer, or asking your meeting host to do so. You may also opt to leave preparations up to the individual. We may find ourselves in positions where we must navigate situations related to people's concern for their physical health. People may appear at meetings in face masks or may sit far from others, a cough may be considered threatening, etc. We note that the atmosphere and events outside of our meetings will affect, as always, what happens in our meetings. Our community is motivated by compassion and safety and the current situation is simply one more opportunity for this practice.

Individuals who choose to attend face-to-face meetings are invited to take care of one another and the communities in which you live by following these guidelines:
  • If you have flu-like symptoms, any respiratory discomfort, or are feeling unwell in any way, please DO NOT attend a meeting. Please rest at home, however minor your symptoms may be, and return when you are well.
  • If you may have come into contact with anyone with flu-like symptoms, any respiratory discomfort, or who may be unwell, please DO NOT attend a meeting. This includes people with common cold symptoms.
  • Please wash your hands frequently with soap and water for 20 seconds, cover any coughing or sneezing with your elbow and not your hands, and try to avoid touching your face.
  • Please be aware that some people may feel uncomfortable hugging or shaking hands.
We also ask that members follow the above recommendations if they could have reasonably been exposed to COVID-19 (e.g., by traveling to areas of high risk, having direct contact with someone who may have contracted COVID-19, etc).

We will continue to monitor the virus and will update you if necessary. We want the Recovery Dharma community to be able to practice together, and we also want to emphasize care and safety.

Thank you for your efforts to protect the welfare of yourself and others. May we all use this time as an opportunity to strengthen our bond as a community and hold each other with respect and caring.

An update from the Transition Team:

REGISTER TO VOTE for your Recovery Dharma Board of Directors!Everyone who considers themselves a member of Recovery Dharma is eligible to vote for the Board. Just go to https://mailchi.mp/recoverydharma/register and submit your email to be added to the voter rolls (note - you will receive an email verification; please check your Spam folder if it does not arrive in your Inbox). This list will be maintained separately from the Recovery Dharma mailing list—it is not for email contact, just voter registration.

Voting will be online from January 15 through January 31, 2020. The permanent Recovery Dharma Board of Directors  will be seated in mid-February.

Each voter can choose up to four candidates on their ballot. The candidates with the highest number of votes will be elected to the nine open Board seats, with terms structured so there is overlap: the four top vote getters will have three-year terms, the next four will have two-year terms, and the next (along with the transitional board members who will stay on the Board for continuity) will have a one-year term.

Please spread the word about registering to vote in our meetings.

Happy New Year!
